I DID IT!!
I DID IT!!!

I DID IT!!!

I am so proud of myself, seriously, 9 weeks of hard work has paid off! I had a blast running the race and doing each event. It was such a fun atmosphere, I love how into triathlons South Africans are! There were thousands of people there!

LAST WORKOUT EVER!!!!!!! Okay, not really. But today was my last offical triathlon training day! And man does it feel good (I’m going to bike the next 2 days, just to get used to the bike more outside, but not for exercise). I swam today, by myself again, and did 60 laps (the last 30 were mixed between freestyle, breasstroke, kick board, and sprinting). It was a great day and felt awesome. I feel ready and can’t wait for this weekend!!!!!

Poor poor Benji. He’s really hurt his ankle. We wrapped it up yesterday but he’s still limping. Worst timing ever! So I went running by myself this morning. Not nearly as fun. I missed my buddy who just talks the whole time. It was pretty boring. I went 50 minutes, about 7km! It was pretty hot, but I was able to run the whole time without any problems! I had to focus hard to keep the stitch away, but it worked. There were several hills too so I walked a minute here and there, but ran all the way up 2 or 3 of them! Tomorrow is my last offical training day! Then I rest and relax and get ready for the race!

DANG IT! Ben twisted his ankle last night in his first of 2 soccer games! The first 60 seconds to be exact. Poor man! I’ve been babying him (which he loves) and icing his ankle. He heard the awful pops when he did it and he can’t walk on it very well. We thought we’d be able to swim this morning but he couldn’t even do that. So we took a break this morning and spent some fun lazy quality time together. We are praying hard and crossing our fingers that it heals soon because his race is in 2 weeks! I went on a 10km bike ride outside. It was fun and good exercise. I'm feeling really comfortable on the bike and look forward to the big day!

Today was a good workout. Ben has 2 soccer games tonight so he wanted to swim and bike instead of bike and run, so we did different workouts for the first time. He swam 45 minutes while I did a spinning class, which was awesome. Then he did a spinning class for 45 minutes while I ran. I ran the first 5 minutes and then felt like I was going to die. Ben and I haven’t been feeling very well this weekend, nauseous and the runs…so I walked for 15 minutes until I felt okay again. Then I ran for 20 minutes. So it was kind of lame, but I felt SO great during my 20 minute run. I probably ran 3.5km total. I hope we get feeling 100%! We can’t afford to be any less. P.S. I'm going to be going out on the bike for 20-30 minutes everyday this week so I can get really comfortable with it. Good idea huh?

Well, today we wanted to do a bike ride outside, mostly to get some actual practice on the road bike. We also wanted to do a full triathlon. But the bikes needed some work, they weren’t ready. We had to take them to a store to get the proper pedals put on, which took a while, get some bike cream and other things. I had to meet with a couple clients and after that, it was lunch time and we were starving so we ate and had to wait for it to settle. Then we took the bikes out and it started pouring on us…so we decided to just go running outside. We ran a good strong 6km in the rain and it was a lot of fun. I felt so good and that hill at the end, I rocked. So we didn’t swim, or bike long…but at least we got the bike all set and I’ll get some more practice on it this week. I can’t believe it’s in one week. Hooray!

Rest day! After an intense week of training, we needed a little break today. Especially since tomorrow we’re doing a full triathlon in our training (swim: 1000m, bike: 30km, run: 7km). Should be fun! So this morning, to still get out, we went on a walk outside (about 4km). I can’t believe I only have one week left! I can’t wait to get it DONE!

We were super tired today from the last few days of intense workouts. We were supposed to swim and then run 45 minutes, but when we got there, the pool was extremely packed. So we went straight to the treadmills. Ben ran about a mile, but I couldn’t even run 2 minutes, my legs were so tired and I just couldn’t do it. So I walked and then we got a spot in the pool. We had a good workout in the pool. We did 24 laps, then we did 4 sprints, then 20 breaststroke, and then some cool downs. We talked to someone who did the Roodeplaat Triathlon before (the one I’m doing) and they said the dam is SO GROSS, they said to change it if I hadn’t signed up yet….too bad I already have. So oh well, I get to be in a disgusting dam! Yes! It was a good workout today, but we are super tired. We’re going to take it easy tomorrow because we’re doing all 3 events on Saturday.

Today was INTENSE!! We did a 45-minute spinning class and then ran for 40 minutes. The spinning class was really hard, and we probably went like 40-50km, I have no idea but because you go so fast most of the time, I’m sure it was far. Then I ran a full 5k and Ben ran about 7km. We both didn’t feel very well after because it was a big push. No stitch, but my knees started to hurt and a weird ache in my upper right leg…but other than that, it was awesome! Gotta keep pushing hard!

Back in the groove yessiree. We swam 60 laps this morning and loved it. The first 20 are rough, but once you get past that, it feels so great and we could just go forever. Too bad my race is only 24 laps because I’ll have just gotten warmed up! After the swim, we did 4 sprint breaststroke and a few cool-down and then biked for 20 minutes (10km). We wanted to do longer but we decided to go outside and run a bit; get all 3 events in. Starting the run was SO hard. My legs were JELLO and so tired. I also got a million stitches all over the place. My whole stomach area just cramped up. So I could only run 2 laps (1km) and then had to walk. It was a good day though! Can’t wait to just get it done!
